Three Daughters Vacations didn’t start as a business plan. It started with sacrifice, hard
work, and a desire to build a better life for our family.
The name itself is the heart of everything we do. Three Daughters exists because family
is the most important thing to us, and because we wanted to create vacation homes
we’d happily take our own daughters to.
Long before short-term rentals, there was a single long-term rental property purchased
more than 25 years ago. At the time, founder Don McCollum was working full-time,
attending school full-time, serving in the Marine Corps Reserves, and trying to create
opportunities for his future family. Money was tight, and he borrowed from his parents to
make the down payment on his first property.
That first investment changed everything.
Don and another police officer renovated the property and eventually sold it. The
proceeds paid for Don’s wedding, his wedding ring, and the down payment on his first
home with his wife. The original goal was simple: slowly acquire additional properties
and build financial stability over time.
But growth was slow on government salaries.
Eventually, Don and his wife leveraged the equity in their home and purchased their first
vacation rental in the Pocono Mountains. It didn’t take long to realize that short-term
rentals could become something much bigger—not just financially, but personally.
The business became a path toward freedom. More time with family. More flexibility.
More opportunities for their daughters. No more missed holidays, mandatory overtime,
or limitations placed on what their family could achieve.
Growing up, Don’s vacations were mostly day trips. Nothing felt missing at the time, but
later in life, after traveling with his wife and children, he realized how meaningful travel
experiences can be for families. Those memories inspired a simple mission: create
vacation experiences that families can truly enjoy and remember.
Today, that mission remains at the center of everything we do.
We don’t focus on luxury for the sake of luxury. We focus on creating comfortable,
dependable vacation homes where families can make memories together. We
understand that for many families, their annual vacation is something they save and
plan for all year long. We take that responsibility seriously because one disappointing
stay can impact memories that were years in the making.
As Three Daughters Vacations continued to grow, Don realized that delivering
exceptional vacation experiences required more than property management alone. It
required building a team of trusted local partners who shared the same commitment to
quality, integrity, and service.
One of those partners was Kevin Transue of Country Mile Property Services. For years,
Kevin worked alongside Three Daughters, helping coordinate exterior projects, connect
homeowners with quality local vendors, and ensure properties received the attention
they deserved.
Over time, Don and Kevin discovered they shared much more than a business
relationship. Both had built long and successful careers in law enforcement. Both were
deeply committed to family. Both believed there was a better way to serve homeowners
and guests.
They weren’t interested in simply providing maintenance services or managing
properties. They wanted to build something different—a company focused on
relationships, trust, accountability, and genuine hospitality.
As Three Daughters continued to expand, Kevin officially joined the company as
Operations Manager, helping oversee vendor relationships, maintenance coordination,
landscaping, property improvements, and owner support.
At the same time, Three Daughters faced another challenge common throughout the
vacation rental industry: finding cleaning partners capable of consistently delivering five-
star results.
While many companies could clean a home, very few could consistently meet the
standards required to create exceptional guest experiences week after week.
One company continually stood out.
Kari Payne and her team at Cleaning by Kari consistently delivered the quality,
reliability, and attention to detail that Three Daughters expected for its guests. After
years of working together and sharing the same commitment to excellence, the
relationship evolved into a true partnership. Kari formally joined Three Daughters
Vacations as Cleaning Coordinator, helping oversee cleaning operations and quality
standards across the portfolio.
The addition of both Kevin and Kari marked an important milestone in the company’s
growth.
Together, they helped create a fully integrated support team capable of providing
services that few local management companies can match—from guest services and property management to cleaning, maintenance, landscaping, vendor coordination,
inspections, and property improvement projects.
Today, Three Daughters Vacations remains a family-run company built on the values
that inspired its creation from the beginning: family, trust, hard work, hospitality, and
doing the right thing.
